Grown up acne

Acne should go when you leaave your teens, but adults can suffer from breakouts at any age. It is one of the mot commom problems and can take a lot of effort to ger your complexion blemish-free.

Treat it at the salon

  • Onnilux Blue uses a spectrally pure blue light source to clear and control acne and kill harmful bacteria. Initially the skin gets worse, but patients can expect to see 70-80% improvement by the end of the course.

Treat it at home

  • Use tea-tree oil on a cotton bud to help dry out a breakout
  • Use prducts that reduces excess oils and keep it clean ; Proactiv products are great for acne-prone skin
  • Light-reflecting foundations can also show up dents and scars, so choose a perfect colour-match matte foundation
  • Use medicated concealer tha soothes well as covers; one of the best is the one by Dr Hauschka

Quick Secret
Those with acne or chickenox scars may find a primer helpful in smoothing the skin and helping makeup to adhere.

Makeup Tips and Tricks #10

If you're using creme blush or brozer, apply it straight on top of liquid or creme foundation and blend well, if you're using poder blush or bronzer dust a fine layer of translucent powder over the foundation to set it, this gives a velvety finish and the perfect canvas for applying powder blush or bronzer.
If you apply a powder formulation directly onto foundation, it won't blend and will look streaky and patchy.

Makeup Tips and Tricks #9

If you have dry skin, use a foundation and blush with creme formulation, which will help to plump up the skin and make the skin look super-hydrated.
For more mature or tired-looking skin, try makeup with invigorating ingredients such as caffeine and/or light-reflecting pigments to revitalize your look.

Managing Sensitive Skin

Some people are allergic to certain ingredients, others have skin s sensitive that any perfume or colouring can make it flare up. Many brands such as Lancome and Estee Lauder make fragrance-free products, while Origns and Aveda use only organic ingredients. Elave products are affordable and great for sensitive skin (and skin with open pores). Moisturizers with natural ingredients and without perfumes are likely to be more gentle, but be careful because some essential oils and plant extracts can react with the skin. The fewer things there are in the ingredients list, the less likely that the product wll react with your skin.

SOS TIPS
  • Use hypoallergenic cleansers and moisturizers specially formulated for sensitive skin
  • Avoid harsh products containing alcohol and perfume, instead choose soothing ingredients such as aloe and camomile
  • Don't use harsh exfliants for cleasing- even rounded beads can overstimulate the skin
  • Investigate organic or natural makeup ranges, but lways ask for testers to see how your skin will react before buying
MAKEUP TIPS

  • Don't wear too much makeup and avoid heavy foundation
  • Liquid foundation that is silicone-based is less likely to irritate sensitive skin, while hypoallergenic powder formulations contain few preservatives and feel light on the skin.
  • If you have a high colour, neutralize the red with concealer or pimer before applying any colour to your skin
  • Choose yellow-toned foundation rather than pink. Some companies, such a s Prespectives, can mix foundation specially for you
  • Use foundation containing susncreen to kep amount of product you're wearing to a minimum
  • Try beige or tan colours on your eye, they cause less irritation to sesitive skin that highly pigmented colours
  • Wax-based pencils tend to cause fewer problrms that liquid eyeliners, not least because they are easy  to remove

Managing Oily Skin

Skin produces an oil called sebum, which keeps it supple and healthy and protects it from enviromental aggressiors. Overactive sebaceous glands result in greasy skin with larger open pores. It can be more pron to breakouts, the excess oil blocks the pores and makes the surface shiny, which also makes it harder for some kinds of makeup to stay on (especially on a hot day). On the positive side, women with oily skin tend to have fewer wrinkles.

SOS TIPS
  • Keep the skin hydrated as it will try to produce more oil if it feels dry. Use water-based moisturizers or those formulated for oil control
  • Don't overwash the skin, which will stimulate the production of sebum.
  • Use an oil-based cleanser to dissolve excess sebum
  • Avoid oil-stripping products with high alcohol content. These can make th skin feel fresh in the short term, but they are too harsh and will make the problem worse
MAKEUP TIPS
  • Use  a matttifying promr under foundation to help it to stay on and to enable you to use less, reducing th erisk of clogged pores and blemishes
  • Silica helps absorb oil, look for it in primer, foundation and powder. Silica can hold a large amount of oil and keep it locked away from the skin's surface, preventing blocked pores
  • Mineral powder foundations are perfect for very oily skin, as the oil helps the powder to be absorbed, giving a natural finish, alternatively use a light foundation and buff your skin with fine loose powder
  • Avoid creme blushes, bronzers and eyeshadows, which are often wax-based and sit on the skin's surface, leading to blocked pores
  • Oil-free makeup and moisturizers will help to keep you shine-free. Steer clear products that clam to give a glossy or satin finish, as these contain fats.

Managing Dry Skin

The body loses about 600ml (1 pint) od water a day by evaporation through the skin, and if moisture is lost faster than it can be replaced by underlying tissue, the outer layer becomes dry. Production of sebum, a natural oil, is minimal and pores are almost invisible, so the plus point is that dry skin is less susceptible to breakouts. The downside is that dry skin tends to show signs of ageing and can be flacky.

SOS TIPS
  • Drink at least eight glasses of water a day
  • Use skin care products with high water content
  • Wear a protective moisturizer as a barrier against water loss
MAKEUP TIPS
  • Makeup sits on the surface of dry skin, so mosturize well and use oil serum under foundation
  • A light moisturizing liquid foundation will work better for you than creme or stick foundations
  • Oil based products glide on easily, powder products sit n creases and draw attention to fine lines and flacky patches
  • Creme blush id preferable to powder blush for the same reason

Manging Normal Skin

If you have skin that is neither excessively dry nor oily, nor especially prone to sensitivity, you are lucky enough to have normal skin. Even so, most people's skin goes through phases when it is drier, oilier or more sensitive than at other times. Also termed 'combination' skin by cosmetic companies, normal skin may be slightly dry on cheeks with greasier patches on and around the nose, chin and forehead, as these areas naturally produce more sebum. No one product can hydrate one area while absorbing oil from the another, so the best option is to treat problem areas seperately with different products.
The choice of makeup formulations are wider if you have normal skin, anything goes, and it's a matter of trial and error to see what suits you best.

Identifying your skin type

The skin is the body's largest organ, if we could shrug it off, its weight would be equivalent to three bags of sugar. It acts as a barrier against the enviroment and infections, and helps to regulate body temperature and excrete toxins.
Our skin is very mportant, that's why I have gathered information to help you identify your skin type, in rder for you to take good care of it.
These are the key behaviours and reactions of the different skin types, so pay attention to how your skin behaves and identify it, so you know exaclty how to take care of it.
There is also combination skin, for example, my skin is combination skin typ because its normal, but then around my T zone its a bit oily in the summer and during winter it gets really dry, so i treat this area in a different way to keep it under control.
I hope this information is useful, and do not hesitate in contacting me by email or leave a comment down below if you have any doubts or any questions.

For mature ladies, Brown mascara and eyeliner is more flattering than black.
Gel and liquid liners can look harsh, but damp eyeshadow used as an eyeliner will flow better over fine lines.
